Alexander Korotko is a poet, a playwright, the author of books and publicatons in magazines, almanacs, anthologies and a member of  the Russian PEN Centre.

His literary careerbegan in late 80s when he was published in Literaturnaya Gazeta. The Window, A.Korotko’s first collection of poems, came out in 1989. It was followed by The Night Well, The Humdrum of Reason, The Clapping of Dead Hands, The Bleached Nightdreams. 2002 saw the publication of The Transcript of Thought, a book of one-line verses with illustrations by the Karaite artist Mikhail Kazas, whose creative work belongs to the Silver Age. In 2003 A.Korotko published his long poem To Meet The Dawn and a book of prose, The Moonboy. Two bilingual collections of poems came out in 2005, Both Sides of Love (Russian/English) and Fourmiliere du Silence (Russian/French).

A.Korotko’s poems have been translated into Ukrainian, Greek, Polish, Croat, French, English, Hebrew.

In 2000 the actor Sergei Yurski realesed Along the Silence CD, where he recited selected poems by A.Korotko.

The Podol Theatre has a play based on A.Korotko’s verse and staged by Vitali Malakhov in its repertoire.

Of great success were A.Korotko’s poetry recitals at the Odessa Opera House (1996), Kiev Philharmonic Hall(1998), the Kharkiv Opera House (1999), the Franko Theatre (2001) in Kiev (with poet Bella Akhmadulina). In 2003 A.Korotko took part in the 3rd International Festival “Biennale of Poets in Moscow”.

Various songwriters have used A.Korotko’s poems as lyrics to their songs. They are performed by Filip Kirkorov, Alexander Malinin, Iosif Kobzon, Tamara Gverdtsiteli, Nikolai Karachentsov, Taisia Povaliy; Yuri Bogatikov used to sing them too.

Alexander Korotko believes that Russian culture has had a major influence on his personality. His interests encompass philisophy, literature, art, and music.

He was born on 29 August 1952 in the town of Korosten, Ukraine. As a university student he studied economics. He lives in Kiev.
